<h3>WHAT ARE BOTOX&reg; AND DYSPORT&reg;?</h3>

Botox and Dysport are both botulinum toxin. A product that reduces fine lines and wrinkles by temporarily relaxing targeted muscles. The most commonly treated area is between the eyebrows (frown lines). Since Botox and Dysport are prescription drugs that are regulated by Health Canada, patients must be seen by a physician prior to receiving these treatments.&nbsp;

<h3>THE PROCEDURE</h3>

A conservative and gentle approach to injectables is essential to maintain a natural appearance. After your consultation, Botox and Dysport injections take only approximately 10 to 15 minutes with no downtime. Results can start to be seen within a few days with optimal results at 2 weeks. Results usually last 3 to 4 months.

Facial volume loss and the appearance of wrinkles and folds are part of the natural aging process. What are dermal fillers? Dermal fillers are gel-like substances that are injected under the skin to soften lines and folds and restore lost volume. When dermal fillers were introduced decades ago, &ldquo;spot treatment&rdquo; of single areas of the face, including nasolabial folds and lips, was common practice.

Although these areas are still often injected today, the approach to injecting fillers over the last few years has evolved significantly. No longer is it just about chasing lines and folds. Instead the goal is to restore lost volume to multiple areas of the face that occurs with aging, including the cheeks, chin and under the eyes. Larger amounts of dermal filler is required with this pan-facial injection approach. However, the results are more balanced and natural looking since all areas of the face are addressed.

The Procedure - A conservative and gentle approach to injectables is essential to maintain a natural appearance. After your consultation, dermal filler injections take only approximately 30 minutes, depending on the number of areas treated, with minimal downtime. Results are immediate.

Dermal Fillers

Sweating is normal and its main function is to control body temperature. As the&nbsp;water in the sweat evaporates, the surface of the skin cools. Hyperhidrosis is a condition characterized by abnormally increased sweating, in excess of that required for regulation of body temperature. It most commonly occurs in the underarms, hands and feet and affects up to 3% of the population. Dr. Gerstein will help diagnosis your excess sweating and discuss treatment options including Botox&reg; Therapeutic and other topical solutions. Many insurance plans will cover the cost of Botox for hyperhidrosis when administered by a physician.

Hyperhidrosis

Latisse&trade; (bimatoprost) is a topical prescription product from Allergan indicated to treat hypotrichosis (sparse hair) of the eyelashes by increasing their growth, including length, thickness and darkness. It was used as a glaucoma medication for many years. Latisse is applied once daily in the evening until you are happy with the results, and then 2-3 applications per week is recommended for maintenance. Since Latisse is a prescription medication, a consultation with Dr. Gerstein is required to discuss risks and determine if you would be a good candidate.

Latisse Treatment

Hyaluronic acid can hold up to 1000 times its own weight in water, occurs naturally in the body and keeps skin looking plump and youthful. Unfortunately, levels start to decline in our late 20s and this decline contributes to the visible signs of aging. Skinboosters are hyaluronic acid gels that are injected as tiny droplets in or just under the skin to hydrate and improve general skin quality. Skinboosters can help to gradually improve your skin&rsquo;s condition and radiance, increasing elasticity, and reducing fine lines and imperfections. The skin of your face, hands, neck and d&eacute;colletage can be treated. Injections are typically administered over the course of 2-3 treatment sessions, approximately 4 weeks apart. Regular maintenance sessions (every 6 to 12 months) are recommended to ensure lasting results.

Skinboosters

Spider veins, also known as telangiectasias, are thin red, purple or blue veins that lie just under the skin. Spider veins may result from dysfunctional vein valves. Veins carry blood back to the heart. In order to prevent blood from flowing backward, veins contain one-way valves that close once blood passes through. If the valve becomes damaged, the blood may flow backward and cause blood to pool inside the vein. Over time, this can lead to permanent bulging veins. Risk factors for spider veins include genetics, pregnancy, older age, being female, being overweight, hormones (eg. birth control pill), sitting or standing for prolonged periods and previous vein damage.

Sclerotherapy is a non-surgical procedure to improve the appearance of spider veins and varicose veins. These veins are injected with a very fine needle with a sclerosing solution. The solution irritates the lining of the vein wall &ndash; this causes blood clotting within the vein and the vessel walls to stick together. Over a period of a few weeks, the vein is degraded by the body and disappears. Sclerotherapy has been used for decades and is still the gold standard for spider vein treatment.

Sclerotherapy

Hair loss affects all genders. Causes include medical issues, aging, hormones, stress and genetics. If you are concerned about hair loss, there are several options available including platelet-rich plasma (PRP). PRP therapy stimulates new hair growth, slows down hair shedding and increases the thickness of the hair shaft.

Dr. Gerstein will draw blood from your arm and place it into a centrifuge where the plasma is separated from the red and white blood cells. The concentrated platelets in the plasma contain growth factors that stimulate hair follicles. She will then inject the plasma into the thinning or balding areas of the scalp.

This treatment needs to be done in a series, beginning with a minimum of four treatments, six weeks apart then reassessed by Dr. Gerstein. Many patients see a difference within three to four months with greater hair density and less shedding. Maintenance is required twice yearly.

PRP for Hair Loss

As you age, collagen production decreases and your skin doesn&rsquo;t have the same resiliency and fullness it did in the past. Sculptra is an injectable filler made up of poly-l-lactic acid (PLLA) which activates your skin&rsquo;s natural power to stimulate collagen production for a more youthful appearance. Results are noticeable gradually since it takes time for your skin to produce collagen. Sculptra can improve wrinkles and restore volume loss in the temples, cheeks, marionette lines and jawline.&nbsp;

Sculptra is injected in a series of treatments. As a guideline, it is recommended to have one treatment per decade of life. However, Dr. Gerstein will advise what is best suited to you based on your skin condition and desired result. You may start to notice results three to four months after your second treatment. Results will continue to improve for up to six months after your final session and can last up to two years.&nbsp;

<h3>WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED?</h3>

As long as hair is dark and growing, virtually any body part can be treated. This includes underarms, bikini, legs, back, chest, breasts, face, between the eyebrows, ears, nose or just about anywhere you can imagine. Unfortunately grey, white and natural red hair do not respond well to present hair removal lasers.

<h3>HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE REQUIRED?</h3>

Most clients require a minimum of 5 treatments, separated by approximately 6 weeks.

<h3>WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?</h3>

Even after their first laser hair removal treatment, some patients notice a dramatic reduction in the number of hairs that grow back. Permanent reduction of up to 90% can be achieved. The hairs that do grow back are usually much lighter in colour and finer in texture. Most patients notice that the maximum number of hairs, which are permanently destroyed, occurs after the 4th or 5th treatment. 50% of patients who complete 5 treatments will achieve 50-75% permanent hair reduction, but results do vary.

<h3>WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE LIKE?</h3>

The pulse of light and energy emitted by the laser is selectively absorbed by the pigment in your hair follicle. The duration of this pulse is just long enough to disable the follicle. A special cooling gel provides further skin protection. The treatment is generally comfortable and well tolerated. Treatment times vary from 15 minutes for small zones to over 60 minutes for larger areas. Immediately after the treatment, the area may be slightly red and swollen. It is possible to return to normal activities right away. A &ldquo;regrowth or stubble&rdquo; may appear in 2-3 weeks. This is the old hair regrowth from the follicle, which will fall away from the skin easily with gentle rubbing. The area must be protected from the sun for one week and then a sunscreen should be used for two months. With Mediterranean, Asian and darker skin types there can be some pigmentation that develops a few weeks after treatment and this generally fades.

<h3>WHAT TO EXPECT:</h3>

Most patients describe an increased sensation of heat during the treatment to minimize discomfort, topical anesthesia is applied before the procedure. In addition, we offer a cooling device for increased comfort for our patients. After the treatment, most patients feel like they have a sunburn, which usually diminishes in 1 to 3 hours. You may experience redness, flaking and/or minor swelling for up to 48 hours after the procedure. This procedure is typically done in a series of 3-5 treatments depending on the skin concern for optimal results.

Laser Resurfacing

True MediSpa offers a variety of chemical peels to treat a multitude of concerns and skin conditions. All of our peels are medical grade, allowing our medical aestheticians the ability to target and treat even the most stubborn conditions such as melasma and other pigment issues. Medical grade peels provide a treatment option for patients with darker skin types that may not tolerate lasers.

The most common applications for peels are acne and hyperpigmentation (eg. melasma) as well as overall skin rejuvenation. Chemical peels are usually performed on the face, but may also be used on the neck, d&eacute;collet&eacute; and hands. Your medical aesthetician will determine which peel is best suited to your needs and concerns in your consultation.

Medical Grade Peels

True MediSpa is pleased to offer diamond tip technology microdermabrasion. Microdermabrasion is a type of mechanical exfoliation, which enhances cellular turnover. This treatment is an ideal solution for a range of common skin concerns such as large pore size, sun damage, aging skin, acne scars and light stretch marks. The diamond tip microdermabrasion procedure has no messy crystals, does not compromise the skin, and can be performed in a one-hour appointment.

Our Medical Aestheticians will assess your skin and determine which diamond tip is best suited for your skin type and condition. A selection of serums can be used to enhance your results. The number of treatments required will be determined in consultation with your Medical Aesthetician. Packages are also available.

Microdermabrasion

Microneedling creates thousands of microscopic channels in the skin and can be categorized as either medical or cosmetic. There are many different types of microneedling devices including rollers, stamps and electronic devices. Cosmetic microneedling devices contain needles that are 0.1 - 0.3mm long and create microscopic channels to increase the absorption of topical products into the skin. They stimulate keratinocytes to release growth factors, which increase cell turnover and cause epidermal thickening.

Medical microneedling devices contain needles that are 0.6 to 3mm in length, which trigger the wound-healing cascade. This stimulates keratinocytes and fibroblasts to release growth factors resulting in increased epidermal cell turnover and increased collagen, elastin and glycosaminoglycan (e.g. hyaluronic acid) production. Studies have shown improvements in scar appearance, fine lines, wrinkles and skin surface irregularities with microneedling treatments. Medical microneedling devices are to be used by physicians, nurses and other trained skin care professionals, not at home. &nbsp;

Microneedling can be used on all parts of the body, including: face, neck, d&eacute;collet&eacute;, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back. It can be also used for facial rejuvenation on its own or in combination with PRP (platelet-rich plasma) to deliver growth factors to the dermis of the skin. Microneedling with PRP involves extracting a small vial of the patient&amp;#39;s blood from their arm and spinning it in a centrifuge to separate the plasma (the liquid part) from the red and white blood cells. The plasma, which is rich in platelets and growth factors and, therefore, called PRP is then injected into the face, either via microneedling or by injection.

Photofacials at True MediSpa are safe and quick, performed in 45 minutes or less.
